Social Media: Fad or Here To Stay?
Think about it: when you hear the term “social media”, what comes to mind? Newspapers? Facebook? Twitter? Take a look at this video and tell me what you think.
Whether you realize it or not, social media is the new form of communication and getting your name or brand ‘out there’. People are searching more and more for reviews on restaurants before trying them. Did you know that 74% of people prefer peer recommendations, as opposed to the 14% that trust advertisements alone?
I’m sure, by this time, you’ve heard of Twitter. What you may not know is just how quickly topics may be spread by means of Twitter. People can “tweet” anywhere. In fact, most tweets come from mobile devices, such as cell phones and pocket computers, or netbooks. People like to share information quickly. Think about that the next time you get a phone call from a hostile client or disgruntled customer.
Eighty percent of tweets come from mobile devices. Technology is evolving. Ever notice how many cell phone carriers offer data packages with their phones?
Let me ask you this: after knowing these bits of information, do you still think social media is just a trend?
I challenge you to something. Go to Google and type in a few things. Type in your name. Type in the company you work for. Type in your name, followed by the city in which you live. You may be surprised at what you may find.
